Two Killed in Ridge Road Rollover Crash in Lockport
On Wednesday, an elderly couple was killed in a rollover crash on Ridge Road in Lockport. According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred in the 5300 block when the westbound 2021 Chevrolet Corvette the couple was traveling in left the roadway, struck a culvert, and rolled over multiple times.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received multiple reports of the crash. The driver, an 83-year-old Cheektowaga man, and his passenger, a 73-year-old woman from Williamsville, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is unknown and an investigation is ongoing by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit. Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene, including Wright’s Corners, Miller Hose, and Cambria volunteer fire companies, along with Niagara County EMS, Mercy EMS, and Mercy Flight of Western New York. The Niagara County Fire Coordinator’s Office and Fire Police Team also assisted.
Rollover crashes are among the most dangerous types of single-vehicle accidents, often resulting in severe or fatal injuries due to the violent forces involved. When a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes a fixed object, such as a culvert, the impact can cause it to overturn multiple times, exposing occupants to repeated trauma. Even with modern safety features, the risk of serious injury increases significantly during rollover events.
